Health Guarantee
Our Commitment: Transparency and Your Peace of Mind
At EliteAfricanGreys, we consider the health of our parrots our most sacred responsibility. We operate with a transparency and rigor that allows us to offer one of the most comprehensive health guarantees in aviculture. This guarantee is not just a document; it is a testament to our breeding practices, our veterinary partnerships, and our unwavering commitment to sending only the healthiest, most vibrant chicks to their new homes.
Pre-Placement Health Protocol: Prevention is Everything
Health begins long before a chick is placed. Our foundation is built on proactive, preventive care.
Parent Stock Health: Our breeding flock undergoes annual wellness exams by a certified avian veterinarian. Each adult is tested for:
Psittacosis (Chlamydia psittaci): A standard and required test.
Polyomavirus: Vaccinated against and regularly screened.
Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD): DNA-tested to ensure they are not carriers.
Avian Bornavirus (ABV) / Proventricular Dilatation Disease (PDD): Screened as part of our comprehensive panel.
Common Bacterial & Fungal Screening: Through annual cultures.
Chick Rearing Environment: Hygiene is non-negotiable. Our brooder and nursery are sanitized between each chick, using methods that destroy pathogens without toxic residues. We practice strict biosecurity: no outside bird contact, and we change clothing/footwear if we’ve visited any avian-rich environment.
Nutritional Foundation: Chicks are hand-fed using only top-quality, name-brand formulas with precise temperature and consistency controls. Weaning is a gradual, patient process onto a diet we will guide you on: a foundation of organic, high-quality pellets supplemented with daily “chop” (fresh vegetables, grains, and legumes) and limited nuts/seeds.
Pre-Shipment Veterinary Examination: Every single chick scheduled for placement undergoes a “Well-Baby” exam by our avian vet within 10 days of departure. This exam includes:
Full physical examination (weight, keel muscle score, nares, choana, vent, feather condition).
Fecal Gram stain and direct smear for parasites and abnormal bacteria/yeast.
DNA sexing (unless requested otherwise) from a blood sample sent to a certified lab.
You will receive a complete copy of the veterinary health certificate before your chick travels.
Our Health Guarantee Terms
We guarantee your African Grey Parrot to be in excellent health, free of contagious and life-threatening diseases, and correctly DNA-sexed at the time of sale.
Veterinary Examination Period: You have 72 hours from the time of receipt of your parrot to have it examined by a certified avian veterinarian (not an exotic vet who sees mostly reptiles). The examination must be at your expense. If the avian vet finds any life-threatening or contagious illness, you must notify us immediately and provide a written, signed statement from the vet detailing the diagnosis and test results. We will then, at our discretion, either:
Replace the parrot with the next available comparable chick.
Refund the full purchase price (see Refund Policy for details).
Note: Minor, non-contagious issues like slight yeast in a gram stain (common during stress of relocation) or minor adjustments are not covered. This guarantee is for significant, pre-existing conditions.
Genetic & Congenital Defect Guarantee: We guarantee your parrot against fatal congenital defects for one (1) year from the date of purchase. Should your parrot die from a proven congenital defect within this year, an autopsy must be performed by a certified avian vet or veterinary pathologist, at your expense, and a report sent to us. Upon verification, we will provide a replacement chick of comparable value.
Sexing Guarantee: We guarantee the sex as determined by the DNA analysis from our certified lab. If a DNA test you conduct proves the sex to be different, we will refund the price differential between male and female (if any was applied) or, if preferred, offer a replacement once the bird is returned to us in good health.
What is NOT Covered (And How We Help You Succeed)
Our guarantee does not cover illnesses or injuries occurring after the parrot leaves our care, as we cannot control its new environment. This includes, but is not limited to:
Injuries from accidents, other pets, or improper handling.
Diseases contracted from exposure to other birds, unsanitary conditions, or poor diet.
Nutritional disorders (e.g., hypocalcemia in Greys) from an improper diet.
Behavioral issues (e.g., feather plucking) stemming from environmental stress, loneliness, or lack of stimulation.
This is why our support is lifelong. We will equip you with detailed dietary guides, housing recommendations, toxin lists (Teflon, aerosols, etc.), and behavioral advice. We are a phone call away to help you troubleshoot and prevent health issues. The best guarantee is an educated owner, and we are deeply invested in making you one.
By choosing an Elite African Grey, you are choosing a parrot whose health has been the priority from its very first breath. Our guarantee is our promise and our pride.
